About Pre Comp

What is Pre-Comp?

The NKSC Pre-Competitive Program is designed for boys and girls with an enthusiasm for soccer and who are interested in playing competitive (select) soccer in the future. Pre-Comp is intended for those players looking to play against stronger competition and provides an opportunity to focus on skill development at a higher level. Pre-Comp is open to boys and girls playing at the U10 level.

The Pre-Comp program will include:

  • Training sessions on specific skill sets, age appropriate
  • Rotations on training groups
  • Mod size fields and goals
  • Focus on ball handling, playing time, developing targeted skills
  • Program intensity designed to prepare players for select program

Our Priority

Family, schoolwork, soccer and other commitments must be met realistically. Additionally, multi-sport athletes are supported in the program. Coaches and managers help our players to balance their commitments with team growth and development requirements. Our goal is to help our players successfully achieve this balance and play for "the love of the game." Soccer should be challenging and fun, not a job. It is our hope that players choose soccer to be a lifetime sport.

The Commitment

Pre-Comp teams will operate for approximately 9 months. Pre-Comp teams will begin practicing late July and will generally practice twice a week. Most Pre-Comp teams will participate in one summer tournament, most likely in August. Pre-Comp teams will also participate in fall season starting in September and spring soccer season starting in February. Fall season will run 8-10 weeks long and spring season will run 5-6 weeks. Teams will have one (occasionally two) weekend games a week and games will generally be held on Saturdays (Sunday games are a possibility).

Where do Pre-Comp Teams Play?

The summer tournament location will depend on the tournament selected. Tournament selection is made by the Head Coach, considering some parent input before the season startup. League play will generally include 10 games, half of which are played on home (NK) fields. Travel for league games will generally be in the greater Seattle area.

How to Participate in Pre-Comp

The Pre-Comp program will not hold tryouts but will hold Kick Arounds to assess readiness to participate and make recommendations for Pre-Comp. Registration for Kick Arounds is not required and all U10 players are invited to attend. Kick Around schedules can be found following the link on the NKSC home page.

Registration to play on Pre-Comp teams is required on the NKSC website. Placement on a Pre-Comp team does not guarantee you a spot on a future competitive team, nor does not playing Pre-Comp preclude you from making a competitive team in the future.

Registration Instructions for Pre-Comp:

  1. Register your player for "Fall Programs, Rec Modified Field (U8-U10)." During the registration process, type "Pre-Comp" in the comments box to indicate you are interested in Pre-Comp. Pay for fall rec, modified field registration.
  2. Watch for an email announcing Pre-Comp registration is open. This will not be sent until mid-June.
  3. When Pre-Comp registration is open, also register you player for "Fall Pre-Comp." This does not guarantee a spot on a Pre-Comp team. This will place your player on the list of interested players.
  4. Once registration closes on July 15th, teams will be formed and those players placed on Pre-Comp teams will receive an email. The email will include the balance due for the difference in registration cost. Any player unable to be placed on a Pre-Comp team will receive an email stating they are registered for fall rec, modified field.

The Cost

NKSC Pre-Competitive club fees for year round (July 2017- April 2018) participation in 2017-18 are $275 by July 1st. After July 1st, club fees will be $300 and registration will be dependent on available space. This fee covers general Club operations costs (field fees, light fees, referees fees, player insurance, field equipment, player development). Club fees can be divided into payments and need based scholarships are also available. Additionally, team fees are determined by the Head Coach of each individual team but generally do not exceed $350. At Kick Arounds, coaches or coordinators can provide more information if requested.
